Collaborating for Homebound Seniors Older adults are some of our most vulnerable neighbors when it comes to food insecurity: according to the USDA, less than 1/3 of seniors get the recommended amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. After many conversations with our local Councils on Aging and other organizations supporting seniors across the North Shore, especially the good folks at SeniorCare, we are launching a new collaboration this summer to reach homebound seniors with fresh produce. We'll be stepping up as the farm vendor in our region for Massachusetts' Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons homebound program. This program has a long name but a simple concept: low-income older adults receive $25-$50 in coupons to spend at local farmers' markets during the summer, and participating farms send the coupons back to the state office for reimbursements. Farmers get paid, people eat good food.

Rotarian Steven Miles will draw from his recent travels in Japan and from research on a book about Zen Buddhism to offer what will sure to be a compelling presentation.
